Live Album Out February 28th!

In less than four weeks, you’ll be able to experience the music of Love Come Alive any time you want! Recorded live in Nashville on September 24, 2011, Love Come Alive is a live compilation album featuring original songs from an impressive cadre of rising indie singer-songwriters – Kevin Heider, Colleen Nixon, Chris Cole, and more!

While these artists frequently perform solo or acoustic sets, each was backed by the merriest and most talented of minstrels (i.e. a full band) Music City had to offer for this unique concert event. Produced and released by Mysterium Records, the live album will be available starting February 28th and will feature three live tracks from Kevin:

(1) The Salzburg Revolution
(2) Little Child, Don’t Cry
(3) Love Come Alive*

The 9 Songwriter Series

Within the next week, Kevin will be performing in two shows as part of The 9 Songwriter Series:

1.25.12 – Baltimore, MD @ The Metro Gallery (event details)
1.30.12 – Annapolis, MD @ 49 West (event details)

Founded in 2008 by singer-songwriter Justin Trawick, The 9 Songwriter Series is a touring live music showcase based in Washington, DC. Each installment features nine solo singer-songwriters performing in rotation, providing audiences with a rich, intimate, varied listening experience.

These will be Kevin’s first shows with The 9, but hopefully they’ll be but the first of many. Here’s a recent interview with Trawick about the series. If you’re in the Baltimore or Annapolis areas on either of these dates, come support talented local artists while enjoying a great night of new, original music!

House Shows in 2012

Last week Kevin had the opportunity to perform with the lovely and talented up-and-coming singer-songwriter Alanna Boudreau at a house concert in New York. This coming weekend (Jan. 20-23) he will be performing in two more house shows in the northern Virginia/D.C. area with Wendell Kimbrough and Marian Grace. As house concerts are a favorite venue of Kevin’s, we hope that there will be many more of them to come in 2012. There will also be a string of college shows announced soon, so be sure to check back for more shows/event listings here on KevinHeider.com. Haiti Benefit Concert

On Saturday January 28, Kevin will join singer-songwriters Brian Kissinger and Maria Spears in Washington, D.C. for a benefit concert for Mission Haiti, an organization whose objective is “to faithfully serve the many needs of the poor and strengthen the villages of Duverger and Dandann, Haiti by building an orphanage, school, and health clinic.” Tickets are $16 in advance and $20 at the door. Brothers

In July of 2006, amid the 34-day war between Israel and the terrorist group Hezbollah, Kevin spent a significant amount of time reflecting on the state of the world with his guitar in hand. Out came Brothers, a song that appears as the third track on his 2010 album The Salzburg Revolution. He has received several comments from fans and audience members over the years with whom the song’s message of anti-violence resonates. People have often paralleled the song’s lyrics with historical conflicts in Nazi Germany, the Middle East, and Northern Ireland. And now current news reports of the violence in Syria and the attacks in Uganda on Christmas Day only reinforce the tragic notion that the peace once promised seems so much further than before. Nevertheless, hope remains. Recorded with a raw acoustic, earthy sound, Brothers ends on such a note.

He was a young lad. Brave. Strong. Handsome. Intelligent. He had only been walking the earth but a few months when he received his first guitar [from Santy Claus] on the morning of December 25, 1985. Musically inept though he had been considered prior, once his father showed him how to hold the cheap plastic contraption properly, he instantly began composing a brilliant one-note song, creating a profound dissonance to the well-constructed multi-note composition of Vince Guaraldi that played festively in the background. It was Christmas Day 1985: the day Kevin played his first guitar….

A few weeks ago actor Rainn Wilson, who plays Dwight K. Schrute on NBC’s The Office, posted this on Twitter: “Here’s what’s wrong with our culture. In the press there are more articles about ‘Black Friday’ than about Thanksgiving.” It’s tragic, and this is meant literally and metaphorically, that a small can of pepper spray can keep so many of us holiday shoppers from getting what we want. But in the new music video for Kevin’s If This Christmas Isn’t White, a Christmas/love song written for his family, we’re given a beautifully personal, nostalgic glimpse into the deeper joy of Christmas:

On the eve of his 26th birthday, Kevin sat alone in his living room, guitar in hand, thinking back on the first quarter-century of his life, remembering, re-experiencing, reflecting, trying to recall what it was exactly his 7th grade English teacher had tried to teach him about run-on sentences…..The evening’s ponderance wrapped itself up in a warm melody, eventually becoming the title track on his latest EP (now on iTunes), and answering the question: If you could go back and talk to your younger self, what would you say? As Thanksgiving Day rears its annual head, let us remember and give thanks for all those who have taught us, in ways big and small, what it means to love.

Kevin has just returned to the U.S. of A. after ten days traversing the beautiful land of Osterreich (Austria). His travels included two unique performances and the opportunity to debut some brand new songs for a European audience. Whilst abroad Kevin performed for American college students studying in Gaming, Austria and gave a concert on campus at the University of Vienna. The proceeds from Wednesday night’s show in Vienna will benefit the Austrian chapter of Heart’s Home International, a non-profit organization whose global mission is to spread compassion. Highlight videos of Kevin’s concerts in Osterreich will be posted soon on his official Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube pages.
