Our good friend Cory Heimann – creator and chief o’ staff at Likable Art[.com] – recently experimented with his new GoPro camera whilst picking Malus pumila in the warm company of kith and kin. Fittingly backed by an excerpt from the title track of Kevin’s latest EP Ready, Set, Become…, Cory’s creative juices have brewed quite a sensuous visual cider, a seasonal collage of beautifully moving pictures, a joyous and nostalgic glimpse into the simplest of life’s pleasantries. And as the seasons change and we move once again, with grace, from All Hallow’s Eve into the Day of All Saints, remember: It is good to delight in autumnal things….like apple orchards.
In the last year alone, Kevin has performed in over 50 cities [in about 17 states]! As far east as Boston and as far west as San Diego, he has performed everywhere from indie music venues, bars, college campuses, coffee shops, living rooms, and church basements; not to mention the 3-week long [15-show tour] he did this summer in an old school bus with fellow singer-songwriters Andrea Gleason, Joe Zambon, and Noah. And within these next five weeks he’ll be performing in some unique venues in Canada and Austria!
Shows are currently being booked for Kevin’s Fall/Winter Tour! So if you’re interested in having Kevin perform in your venue/area/living room/whatever, either send an inquiry via the form on the “Contact” page here on KevinHeider.com or simply send an email to MPERecords@gmail.com.

Kevin is headed on down to Nashville, TN for the second time this year! His first trip to Music City back in February found him in a spontaneous recording session at Ocean Way Studios and an impromptu concert at a homeless shelter. This time around he’ll be performing at Love Come Alive, a one-night music festival taking place on Saturday, September 24th! Performing alongside Colleen Nixon and L’Angelus, Kevin is thrilled to be one of the night’s three headlining acts. The event will be held at Rocketown and will also include performances by fellow singer-songwriters Meg Murray, Burke Ingraffia, Marian Grace, and more!
There are a limited number of tickets still available, so be sure to visit the official website - www.LoveComeAlive.com – for more details about the night and to order tickets online.
The past weekend was full of newscasts, memorial openings, somber interviews, and televised documentaries all commemorating the 10-year anniversary of the tragic attacks of September 11, 2001. Amidst the reflection, the blogosphere received a fantastic article from New Mexico State University professor, Gregory Butler, about how music can be used as a means of hope and healing in a world torn by violence. Mr. Butler highlights the music of Bruce Springsteen to illustrate this point, musing about The Boss’ 2002 release “The Rising,” an album written in direct response to the attacks on 9/11. Butler writes:
“Springsteen’s craft as an artist is centered on illuminating the core experience of our humanity in the midst of extreme suffering….In ‘The Rising’ we run into characters that, in response to disastrous circumstances quite beyond their control, come out with a resolute determination to regain themselves somehow. They carry with them an abiding faith that redemption, a “rising,” is there for those willing to search for it.” (read full article)
As an avid fan of Bruce Springsteen’s music, Kevin insisted on sharing Gregory Butler’s article here on KevinHeider.com (hence the three links). We hope you enjoy the read! And we hope and pray that in the very near future more music will be written to build, inspire, heal, and spark thoughtful reflection. That’s what Kevin is trying to do.
About a month or so ago (give or take about a month or so), Kevin partook in some musical fun with two of his best friends: Chris and Claire. Chris and Claire are married. They live in Alexandria, VA. Their favorite take-out food is Bon Chon Chicken, which is extra crispy and delicious (it’s deep-fried twice!). Chris is really good at clearing his throat and rubbing paper on his chest. Claire is an extremely talented flutist. Enjoy this video of Kevin, Chris, and Claire successfully performing Kevin’s song “Book Mountain“…..after 31 tries…..
On a musical sojourn to Nashville back in February, Kevin stopped in to Ocean Way Studios one evening for a simple tour and ended up recording background vocals on two tracks from What Wondrous Love, the second album from Marian Grace, a musical group dedicated to re-discovering and re-imagining the ancient hymns and chants of Christendom.
Well, the month of August boasted the release of What Wondrous Love, now available on iTunes! Featuring inspired piano arrangements by Jimmy Mitchell and the powerful, beautiful voice of singer-songwriter Colleen Nixon, the album pre-sold thousands of copies in over 25 countries! Having written many songs for/about many different people over the years (family, friends, girls, etc.), lately Kevin has been wondering what it would be like to be on the other end of this creative process, to be the subject of a song. The following is a conversation he had with his brother-in-law, John:
Kevin: I had a thought on the way to get coffee. I’ve written a lot of songs about a lot of people. But I don’t know what that feels like. What does it feel like to have a song about you? John: I have a few songs about me. Kevin:I know. That’s why I’m asking you. What does it feel like? John:It feels like it should be. Kevin: What does that mean? John: It feels like the world wouldn’t be as good of a place without those songs about me. Kevin: Perhaps I asked the wrong person. John:Perhaps. Maybe you should ask someone less egotistical.
John appears as a character in Kevin’s songs Hold Me and I Could Never Marry John. Both songs appear on Kevin’s latest project – Ready, Set, Become… – an EP featuring six songs written for various members of his family. The EP is now available on iTunes.
The blogosphere is buzzing about The Daily Show‘s Jon Stewart’s recent defense of 2012 presidential candidate Dr. Ron Paul on Monday night. In his comedic and poignant rant, Stewart acknowledged the media’s general ineptitude when it comes to reporting what’s actually going on. And in the case of Dr. Paul, whether you agree with his politics or not, the media’s consistent rejection of him is nothing new.
During the 2008 presidential election, Ron Paul was virtually ignored by the mainstream media while simultaneously inspiring “a unique grassroots movement unmatched in American history.” Shortly after the ’08 election, an independently produced documentary about such grassroots movements and campaigns was released. The documentary is called For Liberty, and the reason we’re mentioning it here on KevinHeider.com is two-fold: (1) history seems to be repeating itself and (2) Kevin’s song Little Child, Don’t Crywas used in the film! To learn more about the documentary, visit www.ForLibertyMovie.com.
Performing alongside Colleen Nixon and L’Angelus, Kevin is thrilled to be one of three headlining acts for Love Come Alive, a one-night musical festival taking place in Nashville on Saturday, September 24th. The event will be held at Rocketown (a 1,500-seat venue), and will also include performances by Meg Murray, Burke Ingraffia, Marian Grace, and more! And there’s a rumor floating around that a live compilation album might be cut at the event….but that’s probably just a rumor…..
Tickets for this event are expected to sell out quickly, so be sure to visit the official website – www.LoveComeAlive.com – for more details about the night and to order tickets online.
While the process of writing and recording new songs for future projects can at times become an anxious endeavor, new fans are still finding out about Kevin’s latest full-length album The Salzburg Revolution, released on May 1, 2010. Cross Rhythms, a UK-based radio station, recently reviewed The Salzburg Revolution on their website:
“This 14-song set from Baltimore’s Heider is his first studio album and contains some great music and great themes…..some gloriously summery music (with guitar work that is reminiscent of the Isley Brothers at their best) and an unrelenting, joyous atmosphere.” (Read the full review….)
